This is going to be an all one-liner post

Today was my last day of work at Noel, my first ever job, which was quite a pleasant and fulfilling experience. (Will elaborate on this in another post, maybe tmr.)

One way of being confident is to simply not care about what others think.

Chinese New Year this year feels nothing much, I don't feel the mood.

I received my first angbao this year, from my super nice superior!

It just keeps popping back up every now and then.

I think I'm getting better at managing my time recently.

Celebrated my sis's 21st birthday last Saturday and I don't think I will be holding a party for my 21st.

Looking forward and yet worried for my job at IRAS which starts next Tuesday.

I miss school days, except the mugging.

I'm really considering material science/engineering~ it's my 2nd choice currently, but may soon become my 1st choice.

Basic theory test is on 17 March.

Tutoring starts on 15 February.

Above was just a quick update on my life. Gonna go through new experiences soon, which is, for some one like me who generally dislikes changes, kinda intimidating but at the same time exciting. I shall keep my life interesting and lively like how a youngster should be HAHA.

And yes, I think what most of us need is courage. Courage to strive for what we want. Out of 誠,信,勇,忠, courage is the hardest to achieve, in my opinion. And I didn't mean to bring in school values haha.

It's so weird how people judge one based on where one lives. The area one lives in does not fully represent anything. It gets a little too troublesome and unecessary to explain. Just gonna leave them to their assumptions.

It feels good to be busy (once in a while)

Yesterday was a packed day with little breaks in between, after taking into consideration the travelling time.

As mentioned before, went back to work at 9am supposedly for some training, but it turns out that it was just doing data-entry and checking through it, no training or whatsoever. I was done with what I had to do by 11.30am, so I was just sitting there doing nothing (and yawning). So John got me to shift over to his desk, because I was sitting right in front of the HR department and if they were to see me not doing anything there, they would probably just complain about how there are too many temp staff haha. Yup so I moved over to his desk, doing my own stuff once again. Idk, I just feel that it's weird to be doing your own things during work. I kept wanting to be given something to do, to be kept busy. Maybe it's because I just started work. But still, I feel it's weird to be sitting there doing my own things when I'm actually being paid to be working. I didn't even feel comfortable using my phone, except for occasionally checking it.

Left my workplace at (exactly) 12pm lol. Settled my lunch with 2 pieces of bread (a doughnut and a coffee bread) and a cup of soya bean bought at Aljunied MRT station. Ate it at the bus-stop while pretending as if I was waiting for my bus LOL. Sorry la, there was no where else I could sit to have my meal.

Afterwards headed for CDAC for a workshop at 1.30pm. Was the third person to reach there so sat around a table with the other two people in awkward silence hahaha. The workshop started with an icebreaker game (as usual), which involved musical chairs, so we had to go around different tables and introduce ourselves to different people in each round. After all the rounds, each table would have to draw a person they could remember from the introduction he/she gave. My group drew a guy who is currently in NS as a medic officer or something. And surprisingly some other group drew me, probably because it was easier to draw a cello lol. So that's how I ended up with that mahjong paper. The trainer carried on by sharing his past experiences, and went through briefly on how we should "learn to work with the kids", instead of learning how to manage or handle them. It was quite a useful workshop I would say, because he did share with us a little on children's mentality and all. He said that a teacher (let's just put it that way) should remain stern for at least the first month of teaching, because that will tell the kids that you mean business. Afterwards, once you slowly start opening up by telling your personal experiences, the children would open up too. And he discouraged letting them call us jiejie or korkor because then they would think that they can play around with you, just like how they treat their siblings. So that's how you maintain the balance between being their mentor and being their friend. I think it's something I really need to take note of, because I always thought that if you treat them nicely, then they will also do so. Plus, I've never wanted to appear as a teacher to them, but rather just a friend that they respected more. But thinking about it, the main purpose is to teach them, not just to befriend them. So I guess there is the need to establish this idea that I mean serious business. Even though I don't like it, but perhaps it will help, considering how my approach has seemed to fail, at least with respect to my dog hahaha. She treats me like a friend (I hope, and not as a toy), but she doesn't seem to really get the point that I am her owner. She just steps all over me, literally, and I have to push her away to get her to back off. But she doesn't do that to my dad.

You know how people say it's easy to be the bad guy and hard to be the good guy? If you start off being stern (bad guy), then subsequently you become a little bit nicer, that amount of "nice-ness" (idk what you call it) somehow seems to multiply by folds. So similarly, if you start off as a good guy, but just make a small mistake somewhere, you immediately get faced with criticism and get degraded to the bad guy, despite all the good that you have done before. That's the sad story of a good guy. So maybe I should consider appearing like a terrible person instead of a nice one.

Yup anyway, back to topic. I met quite a few people of the same age at the workshop, some coming from RI and some school that has the IB syllabus. Surprisingly, there were also quite a number of JC2 students there. I asked one guy what made him decide to commit to this programme this year, despite the A-levels, and he said that it was just to see how much he could stretch himself and also as a preparation for the future work life. Not exactly sure how true his words are, since he gave me a poor vibe (yea I'm judging, also because he sniggered when the trainer said something), but if his words are genuine, then kudos to him! I did have that kind of thinking before, but I was too cowardly to actually try it out. There was another JC2 guy also, who didn't seem all that interested during the workshop. It's kinda sad if they're joining just for the records.

After the workshop, headed to Bugis to meet the peeps for Yik's b'day celebration (which consisted of a fail b'day song haha!). Even though I felt tired from the day's activities, I felt surprisingly more awake once I met them. Hahaha it's like I just forgot how tired I felt (oh but it came back for a while after dinner lol). It was nice catching up with some of them, and of course DDR with nic LOL. Finally played the game again after years. Okay I did play once I think two years back with nic/xm but that doesn't really count HAHA. I used to play it on the PlayStation with the mat I borrowed from my uncle. Even though I was kinda forced by nic (haha) to play at first, but yup thanks for forcing me to play because it made me remember my gaming days. Haha did that make me sound like a gamer? Nah I used to play quite a lot of games la, especially game consoles. But I stopped after the games became a little boring and limited, particularly Nintendo Wii games. I still prefer PS :) Then came handphone games, which were generally not as fun because of the small screen and the touch-screen. Idk, it's just a different feel. Game consoles still better. I like the adventure kind of games hahaha.

Yup, so that was a long summary of my busiest day of the year so far. It was tiring but fulfilling. Feel so much better than wasting my day at home. Okay gonna go tune my cello right now (after so long), finally bought a tuner that day!

First day of work

(Typed this ytd but it didnt get posted idk why!)

My first (ever) day of work today at Noel Gifts. Nice people there :) and my supervisor John is super nice too. Did many things for a first day, ok la more than I expected. Not the quantity, but rather the types of things I did.

Started off by writing invoices, which were a little confusing. Afterwards, called some companies to ask if they wanted to order any hampers. I have always dreaded calling companies or organisations, but surprisingly I think I did quite well HAHA. Must be the practice I had when I called schools and vendors for the Service Learning Symposium earlier last year. And probably because John didn't make me call the companies that had rude receptionists (lol they should just get fired!). I think it's interesting how you get to talk to so many different kinds of people, even from just that few seconds. Some sounded really friendly and nice, while some sounded.... auntie LOL. The terrible singlish accent la. Oh and another thing is pronouncing the name of the person in charge and figuring out (or guessing) that person's sex. And something funny happened. I called this company and the receptionist picked up the call. So I asked to look for Mr Erlin. Then she said that that's her. LOL so I was like oops sorry! HAHA. But she didn't sound too insulted, probably because it's not the first time something like this happened hahahah. Yup so afterwards helped John to check through some information in the comp, then did some filing to end off the day! Worked OT for an hour (ended at 7pm instead of 6pm), but I feel like a scammer hahaha. Because I had dinner at 6.15pm (the company provides dinner during their peak season which is now) till 6.40pm, so basically I only worked OT for 30min. So I got paid $4.50 for eating (free) dinner yay! Hahaha.

Gonna have to go back tmr again from 9am-12pm for some training, in preparation for the busy period ahead before CNY. It's quite fun so far, so hope it remains fun or even better! :D

A Smooth Start~

Was kinda surprised today when no one sat on the priority seat despite the mrt being quite crowded. Not bad.

Anyway, while on the train I realised that it has been a while since I took a crowded train (on my own) which allowed me the time to observe the things happening around. Taking too much buses these days haha probably because I'm too lazy to walk to the mrt station.

I'm currently waiting for xm to get me my contract for a temp job, which starts TMR and ends on 29 Jan. Pay is $6/hr but yea I need the experience la. The very lucky thing is that while I was on my way to tampines to sign the contract, the person from IRAS called to confirm the job! So I'll be starting my job at IRAS picking up calls and what not from 4 Feb onwards. Isn't that just perfect timing or what? ;)

New Beginnings

As an unemployed currently, I told myself that I would not waste my day today. And I think I achieved it.

Woke up at 7.15am today to have a morning run (actually I only left home at 8.45) along the river near school. Poor stamina as usual haha but today was slightly better because of the cool, cloudy weather.

When I reached home, I drained my phone's battery from 90% all the way down to 50% searching on volunteer work and kick-boxing classes. Haha yes kick-boxing. It seems cool, but I doubt I will attend classes that are competitive/combative in nature. Those are not my style and I don't think I will be able to xiashou lol. Looking for ones like the one kn is going for, just kicking sandbags. It still allows one to pick up self-defence skills and it seems like a good form of stress relieve :D Anyway, still looking around la, no rush so I left it aside. As for the volunteer work, I signed up for some tutoring programme at Redhill, under CDAC. Gonna have to go for some briefing session this Saturday, that is 4-hours long?! Quite looking forward to it, since it's gonna be a long-term (a few months) commitment!

Then tonight I just registered for the theory/practical course at CDC. Was so confused and frustrated at first because 1) I did not know which driving school I should sign up for (plus the fact that I'll be moving to somewhere in the west side soon did not help) 2) they did not explain how the thing works - I did not want to attend the theory lessons but it was part of a whole package and blah. But I still signed up for it in the end to save the trouble. $171.40 someone please explain why it is so expensive even before I start any proper lessons?

Yup basically that was how an unemployed spent her day today (with a 2-hour long nap somewhere between). Quite productive I guess (lol) considering how I signed up for two things. But I spend too much on researching on the things I wanna do. The same goes when I look up on university courses. I tend to end up revisiting the same sites haha.

Anyway, if you're wondering why I did not search for a job the whole day even though I'm still unemployed, it is because I'm waiting for the company I applied to to get back to me!! Even though I probably should start looking for another job soon... I can rot soon. But I have many things I want to do. Does that make sense? Because I need money before I can do those things!!!! Omg I'm already turning into one of those people working for the dollar. I guess it's really hard to not be bothered by the money when almost everything requires you to have it.

I feel like this is such a messy post. I don't really know what I'm typing. I don't quite sound like myself. Maybe it's because I'm blogging less frequently now (even though I supposedly have more time). I just don't have much to blog about? I'm not the kind to blog about everything that happens in my daily life, I think. I only blog about the more significant things that happen or when I'm exceptionally happy or sad. Now that I'm so free and nothing much is going on in my life, I really don't have much to blog about. Or maybe I'm just lazy to explain my feelings.

To end of this post, I'm leaving a quote that I saw on Tumblr some time ago.

"You don't just stop loving someone, either you never did or you always will."

Personally, I agree with the quote. If you say you can stop loving someone, I'll say that it's only the nature of the love that has changed. This idea or concept was mentioned by a guy on a show I watched a few years back, and it struck a chord in me. Shall not go into detail about my thoughts though because my eyes are closing hahaha. What's your take on this?

LIMITED EDITION

Awesome thing waiting for me at my desk  once I reached home~

I AM BACK FOR GOOD GUYS!!!!!! Hahaha
