I swear that as the days go by, I'm going to end up with a university degree in cursing and swearing LOL. Every time I do tutorials or revise in particular for CN modules, somehow I will find myself cursing at the paper unknowingly. It's bad because soon it will become a habit and I may just curse out unconsciously during daily conversations which is something I don't wish to happen...
All right, back to cursing..oops I mean studying for 2122! :P

Is it right for family members to not tell a sick person how many days they are left with? I feel that the sick person has the right to know, but I also know that it may affect her will. But if it's almost certain that this person wouldn't live any much longer, shouldn't she have the right to know? It is better for her to carry false hope or to face the reality earlier despite how difficult it may be? Otherwise when the day comes and the person suddenly realises it, wouldn't it be too late for him/her to fulfil certain wishes? Even though it's good that she's being very positive about things now, but people around her all know that even the doctors are not going to let her go for treatment because it's already too late, it's just really saddening that she's carrying such false hopes. It just feels wrong.
I DON'T KNOW MAN. WHY IS LIFE SO SCREWED UP.

Y'know, I really don't agree with this electoral candidate was using emotional appeal to garner support. By emotional appeal here I'm talking about how she made her speech sound so touching, about what the ruling party has done for us over the many years, about how everything they have done is all for us. I am not devaluating their contributions thus far, I acknowlege that it is no simple matter to be able to have developed our country to where we are today. Some comments on fb mentioned things like how touched they were with her speech and how sincere she was. Okay, well done woman, you have secured their votes. Not mine. (Okay, fine! I don't get to vote! And not like she's in my grc.)
It doesn't mean that one should vote for them simply because of what they have done in the past, many years way back. People should be looking at the current state of things and the current candidates. People in the past have left their legacy, but how much of that legacy had been contributed by today's candidates? Aren't they simply trying to feed on the achievements of past leaders? Loyalty is good, but not blind loyalty.

Anyway, I recently watched a video by Amos Yee, on how the opposition should give their rally speeches (which I feel is applicable to not only the opposition). I was rather impressed tbh. The things that he said may not come across as anything new to most of us, since we have been writing essays in school, but you will realise that neither the ruling party nor the opposition parties are doing it in thieir speeches.
One point he said was to make sure that there is balance in the speech. This is something not new at all right? But do the election candidates do that in their speeches? As far as I know, none or very few of them do. Most of them just provide an extremely imbalanced POV and just attack the opposing party. Amos mentioned that striking this balance should be done from the start. For example, on the ruling party side, they can acknowledge the shortcomings or mistakes that they have made. As for the opposition, they can point out the positive sides of the ruling party and the possible obstacles that they could face if they were to be elected. By acknowledging one's shortcomings right at the beginning, it gives you greater credibility for what you are going to say afterwards, as you would already have portrayed yourself to be a candidate who is not simply speaking to degrade or to overthrow the government.
Sounds simple? But no, politicians do not do that because they are often expected to present a perfect image. Perfect image = more votes. But "image" may not work on everyone today. People are becoming intellectual and more critical. They look for substance behind that presented image. A little scar on that once perfect image in exchange for greater credibility is a cheap price to pay I would say.
I'm not exactly a supporter of Amos, I do think he doesn't know the limits during his whole saga, but I have to say that this guy does have the brains. He is smart, but he's just too extreme. It would have been great if he's less extreme and joined politics. Sometimes we need such "radicals" to really see some changes being made.

To anyone who is fuming right now or feeling uncomfortable reading this, this is why I don't like to discuss about politics or any controversy with friends. Politics, along with money, is one of the most deadly relationship-breaking tools. I am not joking cuz Singaporeans are still not open-minded enough, as much as we wish that we are. We want to be open-minded, we try to be, but we may end up feeling very affected by differing views.

$40 that says something
It just spoiled my day la but who was I to blame anyone, it was entirely a result of my carelessness (probably cuz I was only half awake then...) and I didn't think that the person who took the money could do anything about it to return the money or would bother troubling him/herself and make a report to the bank or something, because I really didn't know how the procedure should be like if something like this happens.
The next day I told my parents about it and they said that I could try making a report to the bank, they would be able to trace it. But I was skeptical about it. I know that atm machines have cameras, but if they managed to capture the person who had taken the money, but if the person did not insert his atm card to withdraw any money (I made an assumption here), then how were they going to identify him? I was just really unsure about whether the bank would even be able to do anything about this, especially when the amount involved isn't exactly that big (relatively of course, $40 is still quite a sum to a student like me lol). Plus, I felt that it wasn't necessary to go through the trouble (for the bank, myself and the person who took the money) when it was entirely my own mistake...So I just treated the $40 as a donation and a price to pay for the lesson learnt.
Then....this afternoon I received an sms from the DBS bank about crediting some claimed amount to my account, to which I was unaware of. I suspected that it was the $40, but I didn't dare to expect anything, so I waited till I got home to check.
YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW FORTUNATE I FELT WHEN I SAW $40 BEING CREDITED INTO MY ACCOUNT. Must have been the good karma I have accumulated hahaha just kidding. But yeah I really did not expect to be able to get back this $40.
Thank you so much, whoever you are!! May you be blessed with endless good karma. Really really arigato T.T

I WILL BE MOVING TO TAMPINES FROM NEXT YEAR ONWARDS.
PERMANENTLY.
HI EASTIES, I ARE BACK.
Haha yea a few days ago my parents just bought a house at Tampines, right beside tpjc. We have a houseeeee. Like finallyyyyyyy. I feel a bit mehhh about staying at tamp, because it's so populated, but since my parents said that the house is rather windy and quiet, then I guess that makes up for the location. Oh and I am seriously dreading having to travel to and fro school once we move T.T I have been staying near school since J1 hahaha I guess it's time to make up for the privilege I have been given these past 4 years. It's damn extreme la, I'm always either staying very near school or very far from school. Time to beg the school to give me a room to stay at PGP haha.
We finally get to properly design our house hehe and you know what's the best thing? We're gonna have a separate room just to place our music instruments, which basically makes it into a music room HEHE awesome possums. But of course, our plans are tentative la haha we still have a few months before we can start renovation and many months till we move in, probably some time in May next year after finals.
Nonetheless, YAY to new house ^^

I haven't really been keeping up with the general elections this year, but I stumbled upon this post regarding Dr Chee Soon Juan. Quite an old post though. Regardless of whether you are pro-government or anti-government, everything that Dr Chee and his family has gone through and sacrificed (as a result of him being an active opposition member over these years) is definitely worth admiration. Both his wife and him have doctorates, you wouldn't have expected them to end up living in a small apartment with three of their children. He could have been able to provide his family with more comfortable lives but no he chose the difficult path, but a path that he deemed right.
Tbh I don't know everything about him as of now, about what he did that caused him to be jailed, but what really resonated with me were his words:
"I'll tell them I'm bankrupt because I was sued, in very simple terms, and they come around and understand. They know and accept it," he says. "I don't hide it from them, it's not like it's a shameful thing. It's how you deal with it. They understand."
Despite what he has been through, Chee said it was every single experience that has made him the person he is.
"Some (decisions) turn out to be the worst ones ever in life, (and) you look back and say, why did I do it in a certain way, but if you didn't do it, you wouldn't learn from it.
"So in a sense you don't look back and regret because you'll find they were very valuable teaching moments, if you will… This is who you are… and if you do learn from it, you become that much better for it," he said.
It's pretty much what I believe in. Which is similar to the title of this blog: Amor Fati. It is a Latin phrase (I actually got to know about it from one of Epik High's song title hahaha) which basically means the love of one's fate. Fate, it's a complex concept, but how I define fate personallt is everything that has taken place or will take place. Sure, you contemplate when making tough decisions, you require a leap of faith to do something, but when you eventually do it, it's all part of fate. So yeah, basically I believe everything is a part of fate. In other words, the phrase would then have the meaning of loving one's life, which is along the lines of Dr Chee's words.
