Just within these two days I was reminded twice that there's always a back story to everyone. So don't be too early to judge.

A quote from one of my favourite books (that we were made to read in Dunman haha):
"You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view — until you climb into his skin and walk around in it."

Side note: Harper Lee passed away just last week I think :( RIP.

End of a chapter

Wow. I didn't think it would come across as such a huge relief.

That's why I said it's more of a positive thing than negative, so don't worry bro.

Thanks once again.

Even if what I'm doing doesn't make much of a difference, it doesn't matter because this is what I sincerely want to do.

Maybe sometimes we're not meant to be a hero, but a silent guardian.

Wow I'm applying what I learnt from watching my GEK lecture video this morning hahaha. A quote from Batman:

"He's the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hunt him. Because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A dark knight."

I don't get why people who decide to attend an industry lecture, knowing very well that it is an uncompulsory lecture and that the contents covered will not be tested, only to end up their own work right in front of the guest speaker. If that's the case, I'd rather them not sit in at all. If you attend the lecture to make the lecture hall less empty, please don't do work when you're sitting somewhere very visible to the speaker, otherwise what you're doing is just gonna have the opposite effect. Where's the basic respect? Can you put yourself into the speaker's shoes? I'd feel demoralised presenting to 90 souls but only 5 humans. I probably would have just skimmed through the entire lecture but the guy had actually went through it in such detail and took 1hr 50mins. (Although I did hope that he would have shortened it...) What's bad was that most people didn't even try listening; they went there with the sole motive of doing work. Kudos to our generation.

Fuck. I'm feeling so much like a hypocrite. How do I handle things nicely without being a hypocrite... Easiest way would be to just bluntly put things across but I don't want to make things ugly and I don't think I'll be able to make myself say it. Things would be so much simpler if.

Through these it also shows something. It is so different from my style of doing things.

Maybe my new year resolution was too difficult a goal for me to handle...

Confused about things now.

This semester thus far has been rather filled up with building and maintaining relationships. I guess it's good in a way because this is one of my resolutions this year, basically to be a better friend, and it's fun interacting with people I like.

But some things can still be difficult to comprehend especially when I don't really understand certain emotions that I feel at times. Sometimes I don't know if I'm really ignorant of it or I subconsciously choose not to know...

Anyway, sent Zi Quan off at the airport just now. Second person in the group to fly off for overseas studies. Well I guess absence will make the heart fonder. That's why we learn to better appreciate the time we have with our friends while they are still near us. It's really heartening to see peers showing their affection for one another more openly :) It may not be in the form of words or actions, but just simply dedicating some time to them more than adequately shows that you care about them.

New wallpaper for my phone. This is one of my favourite breed of dog, Samoyed ^^ I realise that I have a huge inclination towards animals that are pure white in colour haha! I really like such pictures that give off a feeling of tranquility :)

Linkin Park - Breaking The Habit

Had to watch this MV as part of the tutorial preparation for my Narrative module. Basically we had to analyse the story and how the story is being presented to the viewer. This was one out of the three videos we had to analyse (the other two being Taylor Swift's "Bad Blood" and Coldplay's "The Scientist") and since I find it rather intriguing, I'm going to share more about it here!

When I played the video for the first time, I was like wtf is this shit LOL. I had to replay it a few more times before I could identify a few key points.

Maybe you'd want to try watching the video first (for those who have not already watched this before, like me hahaha) and try to make sense out of it. I shall write out what we discussed during the tutorial session below.

From the beginning, we pretty much know that this takes place at an Asian country (Japan most probably) from the tape used to cordon the area, then we see a man on the top of a car and the recurring theme of smoke brings us to the first verse of the song.

We see three different groups of people - the shag-face guy with a suitcase, the girl who writes 'I'm nothing' and a guy who has tomatoes thrown at him by a woman. At this point in time when I first watched the video, nothing made sense to me at all. I had no single idea what was going on hahaha.

Moving on to the second verse of the song, here is when we get greater insight (well, except the girl I guess, I really couldn't figure out that part) into what the whole video is about. This part is also shown in reverse chronological order. These are what we concluded from the tutorial discussions:

- The girl suffers from low self-esteem, leading her to self-harm. I suggested that she is obsessed with her appearance (because there is a mirror there) and my tutor said that that is a legit point also.
- The shag guy is a drug user, the briefcase contains the drugs and the green thingy is a needle I suppose.
- (This was the most obvious one imo) The guy who is thrown tomatoes at was caught by his pregnant wife on his infidelity.
- Overall, the video can be interpreted as having different plot lines (the three groups of characters who probably do not know each other exists) in one story world.
- I interpret the lead singer jumping off the building as possibly any person in society who is faced with the same situations as the three groups of characters we were earlier introduced to.

We also discussed about the beginning and endings and how MVs can both provide greater clarity and delimit the possible interpretations of a song, but nah I'm going to leave those out haha and just focus on the plot.

These may come across as obvious to some haha but at the end of the tutorial I was just wow-ed by how artistic this MV actually is, contrary to my initial belief.

Adam Lambert - Evil In The Night

Not the usual type of song I will put into my iPod, but it's still catchy ;)
