An Uncle's Story
Around Europe In 14 Days (Nah... just Italy, Switzerland and France)
Overall, the trip was okay-ish, despite the big group of 49 people. There weren't any brats on the bus so the bus rides were relatively quiet and peaceful. Well, there was a kid who has some illness, not exactly sure what, but she was generally normal except that she couldn't really talk properly. As in, the way she talks is different, a little bit loud at times, but she's still a cute and innocent girl so that's fine. And I'm glad that the people on the bus were rather understanding of her! There were some stuck-up people, but people like them are meant to be ignored. If they can't be bothered about you, don't be bothered by them either hahaha.
Okay let me elaborate a bit about this family. There's this big family of 12 people, but out of which let's just focus on the smaller family of 4, the rest of them are fine. The thing about this family is that they don't interact with others, which makes them seem stuck-up. My sis said that she heard the father of this family telling one of his daughters that "those who didn't buy a (branded) bag are the poor ones". Whoa this is such a wrong statement to make, on so many levels.
1. Is this even something a father should be telling his kids? (FYI his kids are around our age, who probably are already influenced by him.)
2. It doesn't mean that a rich person has to buy a branded bag. It may be just that the person does not fancy such things. Just shows how shallow he is.
3. For someone like him to be so obsessed over wealth and status and refuse to interact with the supposedly poorer people, shame on him man. So much for living over 50 years (I assume) and being so rich.
"Some people are so poor, all they have is money." - Patrick MeagherPlus, it does not help that his character is so flawed when his face itself looks qianbian. Really, if you see his face, he looks like the typical black triads boss. Call me judging or superficial but when it comes to people like him I don't really care.
All right, enough of this. Moving on to the good/better things~
As with most other trips with a tour group, there will always be a few funny people who make your trip a little more interesting. On this trip there was the Young Couple, Cute Auntie & Uncle, Snowman Lady, 三菜一汤guy, The Teacher, Kiasu Auntie, Para's (my dad) Best Friend.
Hahaha if you're wondering what's with the weird names, my sis came up with most of them (as usual) because of some story behind it. Ok shall share it since it's interesting :)
Young Couple - No one actually came up with this name, it just became a known fact somehow. Well, simply because they are a couple... who are young. LOL ya. There were many couples in this tour group, but they looked the youngest and were the most good-looking pair haha. Honey-moon couple la. They were nice for looking out for me when I went out at the top of the mountain myself (because the rest of my family had altitude sickness LOL and were resting indoors) and asked me if I wanted to follow them.
Cute Auntie&Uncle - I love this pair the most hahaha they're too cute! They are actually in their 60s I think, and they came on this trip with their son and daughter-in-law (who are both very nice to both their parents. Probably the family we were the closest to on the trip) who got married this year May. Despite their old age, they were probably one of the most loving couples in the whole tour group! Hahaha they wore matching jackets throughout the trip and the uncle even pulled out the chair for the auntie to sit. And amusingly, they call one another "auntie" and "uncle" :P Just damn cute la. Especially the auntie because she's so small-sized like a little kid. And you know what, she says she's working as a promoter for children clothes hahaha.
Snowman Lady - My sis came up with this name because one day, this lady was wearing a white Uniqlo down feather jacket which made her seem like a snowman (partly due to her size also) LOL. Ya but she's very friendly la, one of the first few people we talked to. I remember very clearly how she and my mum found a common topic because they both were tired from the long walking distance to the bus HAHA.
三菜一汤guy - Again, credits to my sis. You know the Channel 8 cooking show? The Taiwanese host? Ya this guy looks like him, according to my sis LOL. No one else seems to think so, but somehow that was the easiest way to refer to him since we don't know his name HAHA poor guy. The impression he gave me was that he works in the finance sector hahaha probably because of how he dressed and behaved.
The Teacher - Oh she was an epic character. Just based on the way she talked, you could guess what her profession was even without her telling you LOL. I swear it's her 职业病. Coincidentally, she used to teach at St. Nicholas but got transferred to another school a year before my sis entered and her daughter was from Dunman too. She was full of praises for former, but not for the latter haha. So when she asked me whether I missed St Nicks and I said not really, I guess it didn't impress her hahahahaha. Anyway, she's a super funny character. Maybe she didn't mean to be funny, but it just turned out funny somehow and so she became a source of entertainment (at least to my sis and I). The comments she made on the bus are so teacher-like. E.g. "Those who want to go to the Louvre Museum, put up your hands!" "(regarding the quality of the food) Good. No, not bad, got improvement. But still can be better." Hahahah I can't really remember the rest but it was just too funny the way she said it. Oh and she has a talented daughter.
Kiasu Auntie - Ok I started this. Simply because she was TOO KIASU. I got super irritated during the lunch we had up the mountain because she refused to move her chair in for me to get out (to go to the toilet!!!!). I needed to squeeze through two rows of seats because I dumbly sat all the way inside even though I needed to go to the toilet. She claimed that her row (mostly her family members) "cannot move in anymore" and said to "ask the other row to move". But hello excuse me there's a huge space behind your butt on the chair you were sitting on and you tell me there's no space for you to move?! At moments like this when someone is so urgent and yet you obstruct her from relieving herself, you have no idea how irritated I was. Prior to this she already left me a poor impression because of how she always pushed her luggages in front of the lift first every time we checked into a hotel. Ya so from then on that's how she got her nickname.
Para's Best Friend - He's the Kiasu Auntie's husband. Ok let me just explain a little. Basically, 'para' is my dad's nickname hahaha since young my sis and I started calling him that. I think it started during the time when the Para Para dance game was in trend. We used to call him 'papa' but since they sounded similar.... LOL ya. Ok so now moving on to his best friend. We called him my dad's best friend all because they are TOO SIMILAR. They're both very talkative and luosuo HAHA. Are all middle-aged men like that?! Oh and something super funny (and maybe gross) about him my sis told us. She said he didn't leave her a good impression because the first thing she happened to hear him say was that he once had diarrhoea "until it turned from liquid to solid!!!" LOLOLOLOL. Wth man not exactly the best thing to be heard saying by a stranger right hahahaha.
That's all for the interesting people we met on this trip. Lol didn't expect to spend so much time on this hahaha.
I had never really understood the big hoo-ha about going on a trip to Europe (other than how expensive it is), but now I realise why - it's beautiful. Although I still prefer natural sceneries, I think I can better appreciate architecture right now. The churches we went to were simply breath-taking the very moment you step into them, especially St. Peter's Cathedral (kept thinking it's St. Paul's, but no, it's St. Peter's) in Vatican City. Besides the size of the church, the interior of it was so intricately built that it just amazes anyone who steps into it, regardless of one's religion. The other more significant architectures we went to were the Colosseum in Rome, Leaning Tower of Pisa and the Eiffel Tower. Oh but it was regretful that I couldn't really understand what the local tour guides were saying, either because of their strong accent or that they were too soft, so I didn't get to learn as much about the history of these places.
In short, if you like all the old buildings, history of places and love photography, Europe's the place for you. Just remember to join a tour group with a good tour guide if you're interested in the history. We were so disappointed with the tour agency we went to, be it the tour guide or the food they provided.
I definitely want to go to Europe again (especially UK, Switz) but I guess that will have to wait for a few years. Including Maldives, these could be potential places for my honeymoon trip in the future HAHA. I'm thinking too far ahead.
Lastly, happy end of the year~~~~~

Paris
Ah the only thing I dislike about Paris is the number of pickpockets. It sucks having to stay alert all the time, looking after your bag. This ain't a holiday. I can't relax. If not for this, Paris would have been a much more beautiful place.
I also wanna go to the UK, London, Holland, Switzerland (again!), Canada and Maldives (oh the waters!). Actually just anywhere on the countryside instead of the city areas, or where there are beautiful lakes and rivers :) I prefer scenery over architecture.

Sleep sleep and more sleep
Just had a 9 hour sleep on the first day of my tour. Woke up because I couldn't sleep any longer, it's like I could really feel like I was a fully-charged battery haha. That was also because of the naps I took on the plane and while waiting for the transit from Milan to Rome.
But I'm not complaining (I mean, who would if you have extra sleep?!) since it's good to have a good rest after the plane rides before the tiring tour, which often means reaching the hotel late and waking up early. The reason why we had such privilege of waking up late today is because we have yet to met up with our tour group (who probably are still on the plane right now). We took a different flight from the rest of the tour group because my dad didn't want us to transit at Dubai, due to some SARS-like epidemic. Yup that's why we ended up transiting at Milan instead. So we'll be meeting the tour group at the airport later at noon, after which we'll start the tour immediately. Haha that's why I said it's good to have a rest before the tour. Tour groups are always very hiong lol.

A day of farewells
Bye guys, will be leaving for the airport soon. Will try to find wifi at the hotel (I hope there is) and probably leave a few words in whatsapp haha. This would be the longest trip I've ever been on if I'm not wrong and here's hoping that it'll be a memorable one (in a good way)! Adios guys!

Etcetera
Aha. After, let's see, 4 years (no actually I don't really remember when the last time I had a blog was, I don't even remember my password..) I'm finally back to blogger. Tumblr is not meant to be a place to record down your daily happenings la, it's a little too troublesome regarding the formatting. My tumblr would most likely remain, but I probably would be less active.
Now that I still have some time before going out for dinner, I shall post about the life after A levels (mainly pre-prom and rws stayover~), before I leave for my trip on Wednesday night.
Pre/Post-prom period
Let's just say that as much as shopping for outfits with friends was a rather fresh experience for me, I would rather have spent that time just chilling out or catching up. Because we had to settle our prom stuff urgently, we ended up focusing on shopping alone and couldn't really get to catch up with each other's lives. And I must stress that such formal events are not my cup of tea simply because IT IS TOO TIRING AND TROUBLESOME (and extravagant). From deciding on the dress, to settling the details, I swear it was unnecessary stress. Especially for my shoes, which I only managed to buy last minute, and by last minute I mean the night before prom. Oh but I must really thank my mum (who was basically my make-up and hair stylist haha) for accompanying me to find my shoes after work even though she must have been tired. And thanks to my dad for being the driver (as usual) and sending us to prom! :) Despite all the trouble, it turned out well in the end I suppose. Prom was....food. Hahaha I was mainly waiting for the food la, which was only okay... Oh yes and it was cool seeing your schoolmates dressing up so glam-ly, a drastic change from the usual dull and boring school uniform. Like what yiksheng mentioned, prom was basically a more glam version of graduation day. It is even more obvious when people uploading graduation day photos with prom photos in FB. In the end, prom ended with no one from our table winning any lucky draw prizes :( Hahaha
RWS stayover
After prom we travelled to rws to meet up with the rest who (er herm) didn't attend prom haha (thanks cass' mum!). Once we reached there I (almost) immediately removed my make-up lol, unlike yik and xm who wanted to remain glam (tsk tsk hahaha). I just feel uncomfortable in make-up, even though you can't really feel it, 'cos it's like there's a layer of something on your face??? I just prefer nothing on my face I guess. So in the future, as far as possible, I would want to remain bare-faced. Must be because my skin too good already. Hahaha that's what people like xm would say to me, but no, even if your skin is bad it's good to let it breathe. And I refuse to become over-reliant on make-up (like my cousin) which would only make myself look weird when I don't put on any make-up. Natural is good :) That night we didn't do much and went to sleep at around 3am. Probably 'cos the prom peeps were too tired by then haha.
The next day by the time everyone woke up and blah, it was already noon so we met up with kn and yik for lunch at Fish & Co.! I think that was my first time eating there (haha what don't judge!) but it was too much fried food for my liking. Shall skip the part about their inefficiency... Afterwards we bought some drinks (these alcoholics!) then headed back to the hotel for games like Bang! Oh and let me just say something - I must be a genius at playing Sheriff HAHAHA. Nah just kidding. I think this role suits me the best because everyone knows my role and I don't have to try and trick people about my role, which I really suck at 'cos I wouldn't know what I am trying to do. I don't think that much when I play games LOL. Sorry la, I'm a noob :D That night was more interesting than the first night. X-Factor, K-POP star search (which was lol), more Bang! and a small talking session at 5am. Slept only at 6.30am! Oh but the two nights took a toll on my weak body (:P) and so I ended up with a mild flu over the weekends... Once again thanks to Nic and his generous mum for the hotel and car ride to dump our barang at rws before prom!
This would probably one of the last time we can all gather together like this and stay-over in quite some time... If only I realised this earlier I would have treasured those two days more.
(shall continue with this tonight, gotta get out of the house soon!)
Saturday: B'day celebration
Celebrated Lee Hwee, Alicia and Jasmine's birthdays over lunch at Kith (their b'days are all in Dec!!). Let me just express how over-priced the food at cafes are. Got a Turkey breast sandwich at $12, which wasn't that fantastic and I had difficulties cutting through the bread. I would rather have gotten 2 6-inch Subways. If you say we were paying for the ambience, sorry there was no great ambience because we were sitting outside near a road. Talked a little about Finnick (from Hunger Games. Idk the actor's name lol) and it seems that almost everyone finds him good-looking haha. Well done dude. Settled some Taiwan stuff. Oh yea looking forward to the trip! :) Afterwards headed to MBS to meet my parents and grandma after dropping by my sister's booth at the Public Garden flea to pass her her jacket. While waiting for my family to reach, who took like 1.5 hour, it was nice to just sit down at a bench listening to my music and enjoying my cup of milk tea from Gongcha haha. Really felt like I was cut off from the rest of the world.
Sunday
This was the day that was almost non-existent. Probably because of my mild flu that made me feel drowsy throughout the day and resulted in a 3-hour long nap (which I wanted to use the time to do up the itinerary for my trip!!). Anyway, went to the temple with my parents after breakfast. I'm not a Buddhist and I'm not too sure how to go about explaining it, so I'll just leave it like this. After my long nap when I reached home, headed out once again to pass my sis some stuff again (troublesome sister haha) who was at her 2nd day of the flea. Went to settle winter clothings for the trip. Speaking of which, we never seem to be done buying winter clothings?! I think my parents spent a huge sum even before we go for the trip. But I don't think we will be spending much there la, other than on food and transportation. I guess people go to Europe mainly for it's ambience and not so much on the activities.
Monday
Ah let me admit something: I had wanted to write xmas (cum graduation day) cards on this day and send it out today, but somehow I couldn't get myself to start writing them T.T And just like this my whole day just went by doing nothing!? I'm sorry guys. Laziness got the better of me. Afterwards went out to meet xm and yik for dinner at Tiramisu Hero. Cute name haha. But the food was okay only I guess. Oh but the bacon and egg thingy was nice. The curry wasn't exactly what I expected to be :P The tiramisu was so-so, but it could also be because I'm neutral to tiramisu. Still, food aside, it was great time spent talking and sharing our thoughts.
Got to start packing my luggage today, my mum has been nagging. I really don't know how this trip will turn out, considering how big this tour group is (49 people in one bus, seriously?!), but hope that all will turn out well. Otherwise I could choose to simply ignore most people on the bus. Spending 14 days with 45 other strangers and yet still enjoy yourself is something not that easy especially if it gets NOISY.
